    ABUSE COUNCIL
    GOALS AND PURPOSE

    The GOAL of the Porter County Substance Abuse Council is to reduce the incidence of substance abuse in Porter County.

    The MISSION of the Porter County Substance Abuse Council is to reduce youth and adult substance abuse by assessing for, promoting through, and educating about effective community-based programs.

    The PURPOSE of the council includes: To formulate and implement a county wide comprehensive plan and to advocate legislative concerns both locally and statewide as it relates to the goal and vision of the Council

    ...is concerned with education and awareness programs, activities, services or materials aimed at deterring individuals from the use or abuse of drugs. School and agency initiatives often come from this group.
  • INTERVENTION / TREATMENT...
    ...is comprised of those concerned with services that offer assistance to persons in need of recovery from alcohol and other drugs and work to identify gaps in program and service areas.
  • JUSTICE...
    ...deals with the legal consequences of substance abuse. This group is concerned with enforcement, prosecution, probation, court & correctional services.
    TASK FORCES
  • PORTER COUNTY RED RIBBION CAMPAIGN...
    ...focuses its efforts on the annual Red Ribbon Week. The group's work has expanded to include activities year `round. Parades, logo design contests and scholarship awards are just a few of Red Ribbon's many tasks. Click for more information

  • DRUNK DRIVING TASK FORCE...
    ...has a goal to reduce the rate of drunk and drugged drivers on the road. Anti-drunk driving billboards, roving patrols, server training and student programs are some of the ways this group works to make our streets safer. Click for more information

    THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN:
    We work from an annual Comprehensive Plan which serves as our blueprint for action.  This plan is developed as a result of our volunteers meeting in specific task force groups to assess the local needs and to identify the problems and recommended actions needed to address those problems regarding alcohol and other drug abuse.
